Blocks and sections
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Block | A spot on your storefront that Block Hero schedules. It’s either a Block Hero block or a connected theme section. Each block has its own schedules and its own results. See Create a schedule. |
| Block Hero block | One of five ready-made blocks you add to your theme in the theme editor: Image Banner, Media Banner, Media Grid (2), Collection Grid and Collection List. See Block Hero blocks. |
| Block ID | The code that links a Block Hero block in your theme to its block in Block Hero. Copy it from Add to theme editor on the block’s page and paste it into the block’s settings in the theme editor. See Block Hero blocks. |
| Theme section | A section that’s already in your theme, such as a collection list or an image banner, that you connect to Block Hero so it can schedule what the section shows. Nothing is added to your theme. See Theme sections. |
| Connect | Linking a theme section to Block Hero, so it becomes a block you can schedule. See Connect a theme section. |
| Card | One repeated item inside a theme section, such as one tile in a collection list. On the block page, each card has its own row in the schedule. See Theme sections. |
| Section Header | The heading or text a theme section shows above its cards. It gets its own row at the top of the schedule and in reports. See Theme sections. |

| Dynamic source | Shopify’s way of filling a theme setting from stored content instead of a typed value. You link each scheduled field in the theme editor with Connect dynamic source. See Link fields in the theme editor. |
| Entry | The Block Hero content you pick when you connect a dynamic source. Each card of a connected section has its own entry. Its name starts with bh-. See Link fields in the theme editor. |
| Live theme | The theme your shoppers see. Block Hero checks connected sections against your live theme. See Connection status. |
| Fallback | What a theme section shows when a schedule ends and nothing comes after it, if you choose Show a fallback instead of Keep last schedule. See What shows between schedules. |
| App embed | A Shopify theme feature that runs an app on every page of your storefront, turned on in the theme editor under App embeds. Block Hero’s is called Block Hero analytics. See Turn on analytics. |

| Schedule | A start date and time, and an end date and time or No end date, for what a block shows. A block shows one schedule at a time. See Create a schedule. |

| Content block | One item in a schedule on a Media Grid (2), Collection Grid or Collection List block, such as one tile. Add each with Add content block. See Create a schedule. |

| Status | Active (live now), Scheduled (starts later) or Inactive (ended). Block Hero sets it from the dates. See Statuses. |
| Status set by hand | On Image Banner and Media Banner blocks, a status you choose for one piece of content that ignores its dates. Its date badge on the Scheduler turns orange. See Statuses. |
| Enabled and Disabled | Whether a Block Hero block is on. A disabled block shows nothing, whatever its schedules say. See Turn a block on or off. |
| Not published | Your last change to a block didn’t reach your store. Your store still shows the previous version. See Troubleshooting publishing. |
